July 20, 2020, Minneapolis, MN – The Minnesota non-profit Diverse Emerging Music Organization (DEMO) announces that it is moving its headquarters into the historic White Castle building #8 in South Minneapolis in order to launch an ambitious effort to archive and preserve every independent and small commercial recording released by Minnesota musicians.
“One of the most exciting aspects of the DEMO ‘archival project is working with the overwhelming number of artists that haven’t received the recognition and support for their efforts in producing the thing they love to create – MUSIC.” said Steve McClellan DEMO Executive Director.
DEMO was formed in 1999 by McClellan out of the former non-profit arm of First Avenue & 7th St Entry then known as the Diverse Arts and Music Foundation (DAMF). “Demo’s mission is devoted to sustaining and promoting Minnesota’s independent music legacy,” said Ted Martin, DEMO Board Chair. “The Minnesota Music Archive Project is our largest project to date, and we’re truly excited to relocate our headquarters into one of Minneapolis’ most iconic buildings, and to have it as a hub for the project”
DEMO plans to use the facility as a headquarters for the non-profit and as a center for Minnesota artists to submit their recorded music for the Minnesota Music Archive. If you are interested in following or getting involved with the Archive Project, please visit us at http://archive.demomn.org.
As of October 1, 2020, the new office address for Diverse Emerging Music Organization will be: 3252 Lyndale Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 55408
